2009 Rally to Rescue Event!!

Photobucket

A 2009 Rally to Rescue event, hosted by the Shelbyville-Bedford County Humane Association and the Sharpei Rescue of Tennessee, will take place at this year's Celebration Pet Day. Why is a Rally to Rescue so important in our community?

• The Rally to Rescue® program is a partnership with Purina® Pro Plan® brand pet food and pet rescue organizations across the country to help give rescued pets the nutrition and care they need and the loving homes they deserve.

• Purina® Pro Plan®’s Rally to Rescue® program is committed to Doing More™ to support smaller pet rescue organizations that often may have been overlooked by donors or adopters due to limited fundraising and marketing efforts.

• Since the inception of Rally to Rescue® in 2005, more than 227,000 pets have found loving, forever homes. But, there is certainly more work to do. Rally to Rescue® encourages everyone to help our Ambassadors across the country to reach our goal of 300,000 adoptions, since the beginning of the program, by the end of 2009.

o In order to reach this 300,000 adoption goal, Rally to Rescue® will be hitting the road traveling to eight markets across the country through its Rally Across America 2009 program. Rally to Rescue® Ambassadors will host adoption events at area retailers for the chance for you to bring home a furry companion. To find an event closest to you, visit www.rallytorescue.org.

o Every little bit helps when it comes to pet rescue, whether it’s a donation of pet care items, a few hours volunteering at a shelter or fundraising event, or adopting a homeless dog or cat into your life.

o Help us raise money for rescue organizations and achieve our goals by purchasing a Rally to Rescue® t-shirt. Visit www.rallytorescue.org to purchase a shirt in support of pet rescue.

• Individual pet organizations may apply to become Rally to Rescue® Ambassadors by visiting www.rallytorescue.org. Organizations that meet program requirements and are selected by Purina® Pro Plan® receive assistance such as marketing and event planning guides.

FLUFFY AND FIDO HOPE TO GET A NEW "LEASH" ON LIFE

(Shelbyville-Bedford County Humane Association and Shelbyville-Bedford County Humane Association, along with Celebration Pet Day, on September 26, 2009, to raise funds and awareness for pet rescue and help local homeless dogs and cats find permanent homes.

"Networking with other animal rescue agencies enables us to have much more success finding homes for adoptable pets", said Cheryl Richardson, Celebration Pet Day Coordinator. "Events supported by the Purina Rally to Rescue Program enable us to continue to make a difference and save thousands of pets. They provide us with t-shirts, food bowls, and informative posters."

Shelbyville-Bedford County Humane Association is responsible for adopting nearly 100 homeless pets each year in Shelbyville and in the surrounding Bedford County areas. Since the organization is entirely operated by volunteers, the first step in pet adoption is the completion of an adoption application. Once the completed application is returned, potential adopters are scheduled to visit with the potential pet of their choice. Adoption fees usually start at $50.00 to help cover shelter costs and veterinary care. Adoption applications may be obtained by visiting SBCHA's website , by calling (931)684-KIND or e-mailing SBCHA@hotmail.com.

Smaller pet rescue organizations, like Shar Pei Rescue of Tennessee. You can learn more about this rescue group by going to Sharpei Rescue of Tennessee, Inc. or by writing Cindy at chs@sewanee.edu.

The Pro Plan Rally to Rescue Program is designed to raise funds and awareness for pet rescue organizations nationwide. Funds are raised via the sale of pet collars with matching wristbands and also t-shirts. Items are available for purchase online at www.rallytorescue.org. Net proceeds will benefit participating rescue organizations.

2008 Program Guests: Kay Allen and Amanda Oliver

This year, we are pleased to have two returning guests. Their programs were such a HUGE hit last year, that they were requested to return.

Photobucket

The first guest is Kay Allen from Blessed Assurance Farm. Kay specializes in breeding Miniature and Standard Donkeys, Miniature Horses, Alpacas and Nigerian Dwarf Goats. She is doing a Coon Jumping and Donkey Cart Driving Demonstration at 1:30 p.m. in the main ring, under the pavilion.

Wanna know what Coon Jumping is? Click HERE.
To read more about Kay and her farm, please read her bio from last year HERE .
Be sure to visit the Blessed Assurance Farm booth in the vendors area!

Our second returning guest is Amanda Oliver. Ms. Oliver is the executive director for the Beesley Animal Humane Foundation in Murfreesboro, TN. The Beesley Foundations operates a low cost Spay/Neuter clinic.

Ms. Oliver is also certified in Tellington T Touch Therapy for dogs. What is Tellington T Touch?

TTouch - the Tellington TTouch - is a method based on circular movements of the fingers and hands all over the body. The intent of the TTouch is to activate the function of the cells and awaken cellular intelligence - a little like "turning on the electric lights of the body."

Ms. Oliver's program will include a demonstration and description of Tellington T Touch Therapy. She will have the other T Touch specialist in the state, Penny Case, with her.

The Telling T Touch program is at 11:00 a.m. So, if you want to learn how to use this technique to pamper your pooch, don't miss it!

Also, don't forget to visit Amanda Oliver and Penny Case at the Beesely Animal Humane Foundation booth in the vendors area.
